Isabelle Maurice-Hammond, PhD
Archaeologist
Isabelle is an archaeologist and ethnobotanist with more than a decade of experience working in coastal and interior British Columbia, both as a consulting archaeologist and research lead for a First Nations government. Her expertise is in the archaeology and historical ecology of estuarine root gardens, as well as the application of this research towards Indigenous resurgence and the renewal of stewardship practices. She holds a PhD from the University of Victoria's School of Environmental Studies, where she also teaches as an adjunct professor. In her spare time, Isabelle continues to engage in community-led research and restoration work in estuaries and nearshore systems. She also loves to read, hike, and spend time with her dog. Isabelle is based on Vancouver Island.
